It has always been my long-standing wish to write a book about Maltese sweets. I must say this was no easy undertaking because there are serious limitations as to what can be considered as ‘Maltese sweets’. Our sweets are heavily influences by the sweets of southern Italy and of Arab countries, which had a particularly strong influence in Sicily. I have therefore compiled this collection of sweets we can truly call Maltese and of others that are so popular on the islands that we can safely say that they have become ‘Maltese’.
