Maltese artist Giorgio Preca, who lived and worked abroad, revisited the theme of the Sleeping Lady, a popular Maltese icon. Using bold lines, vivid colours, and simplified forms, he reinterpreted the prehistoric figurine through a contemporary lens. The paintings echoed the figure’s reclining pose, creating a direct dialogue between Malta’s prehistoric heritage and modern artistic expression.
