Twelve Tales of Modern Malta
‘Not all the stories set out to raise a laugh, but most contain a smile or two. When you come up against a title such as ‘The Vanishing Vegetable Vendor’ it is a dead giveaway. This particular tale of battling hawkers is typical of the book: it is intrinsic to Malta, based cleverly on a daily local event and full of characters we all know. A word of advice on the cover suggests that we need a pinch of the old sodium chloride to digest the tales. Sometimes they ring so true that you may disagree.’ – Lydia Hope 2014.
