Description
‘Introducing Java‘ is aimed at students who are studying Computing at ‘O’ level. The book is a companiion to ‘A Complete Computing Course’ and it covers in detail the new programming section of the SEC ‘O’ level Computing Course.
The programming features are based on the comprehension of the existing code, its modification and also the production of programs by students themselves.
The book is a journey through programming, from basic concepts, to SEC ‘O’ level components and further.
It introduces practical concepts of programming through the use of robots. This approach is fun-to-use, interactive and makes use of iconic programming. In fact, students are encouraged to make use of the Scratch icon-based language to further their understanding of programming constructs.
Java programming is then introduced through a graded approach, using over a hundred program examples, simple applications, case studies, activities and exercises. Suggestions and ideas for tackling the SEC ‘O’ level coursework are also included.
To enhance the learning experience, a further extension to the Java programming language for controlling robots is used, so that besides text-based output, students can view their output through robotic action.
‘Introducing Java’ is a student-friendly book with ample graphical illustrations. Moreover, the book is supported by a resourceful website: www.java.accc.ws
