Caryl Hart

Caryl Hart is a British award-winning children’s author who writes picture books and young fiction. She is best known for her fun, imaginative, and engaging picture books and early readers. Her books are playful, humorous, and full of adventure. They combine, imagination, and a simple adventure narrative, which is typical of Caryl Hart’s writing for early readers. Her stories often include rhyming text and playful language, as well as silly and imaginative characters such as dinosaurs, monsters, and animals. They are also interactive and engaging for children. A remarkably versatile author, she writes in both rhyme and prose and for a range of ages from baby and toddler, picture books, gift collections, young fiction and non-fiction. Her characters are brilliantly observed and her plots clever and full of fun.

The Girl who Planted Trees won Teach Early Years Best Picture Book Award 2022 and was chosen as one of the best books of 2022 by the Children’s Laureate, Joseph Coelho. Caryl Hart has written many popular children’s books, including How to Grow a Dinosaur, There’s a Monster in Your Book, The Princess and the Crocodile, and Whiffy Wilson: The Wolf Who Wouldn’t Go to School. Many of her books are illustrated by well-known artists such as Nick East and Leonie Lord. Caryl is a much-loved and sought after talent in the picture book arena. She was Author in Residence for Nottinghamshire Libraries in 2022 and has been creating picture books with families in Tameside Libraries. In 2020 Caryl was nominated for the RUTH RENDELL AWARD which honours the author who has had the most significant influence on Literacy in the UK in the past year.
