Mgr Anton Gouder
Mgr Anton Gouder, was born in Senglea in November 1951 and was ordained priest in 1977. Hailing from the Isla parish, over the decades, he has served in various leadership roles within the Catholic Church in Malta. With 46 years of priesthood, his life is rich with diverse experiences and ministries. Among other roles, he has served as parish priest of Christ the King Parish in Paola, Pastoral Secretary, Rector of the Seminary and Pro-Vicar General, appointed by the Archbishop a canon of the Metropolitan Chapter of the Archdiocese of Malta and a Judge in the Church Tribunal.
His work, Annetto Depasquale: Wirt Għażiż tal-Knisja f’Malta, edited by Mgr Anton Gouder and Fr Kevin Schembri is a commemorative book published in 2021 to mark the 10th anniversary of the death of Annetto Depasquale,(1938-2011), the respected Maltese auxiliary bishop and long-serving Church leader. The title, which in Maltese means “a precious heritage of the Church in Malta”, reflects the editors’ intent to honour not just his life story but the enduring impact of his work and ministry. This was done by putting together a biographical profile of Bishop Depasquale, a collection of personal recollections and testimonies from people who knew him well in different contexts and includes colour photographs that help illustrate his life and work, as a tribute to the person and heritage of Depasquale.
Mgr Anton Gouder has spoken publicly on social and moral issues affecting Maltese society, such as marriage, family life and youth values. His public writings take the form of articles, speeches and church commentary, as well as editorial work on church and social issues.
