Alberto Montt
Alberto Carlos Montt Moscoso is an Ecuadorian-born Chilean illustrator, cartoonist, and graphic artist internationally recognised for his distinctive blend of humour, satire, and social commentary. Born in Quito, Ecuador, in 1972, he studied graphic design and fine arts before establishing a successful career as an illustrator for newspapers, magazines, publishers, and advertising agencies throughout Latin America. Since 2021, he has been based in Angoulême, France, where he continues his artistic work.
Montt achieved international recognition through his acclaimed webcomic and blog Dosis Diarias, launched in 2006, where his witty and thought-provoking illustrations explore everyday life, philosophy, religion, politics, and human behaviour. His work, characterised by its minimalist style and sharp humour, has earned a large global following and numerous accolades, including the 2011 Deutsche Welle The BOBs Award for Best Blog in Spanish. He has published more than twenty books, ranging from collections of cartoons and graphic novels to children’s books, and his works have been translated into numerous languages.
In Malta, Alberto Montt is known as the illustrator of Fake ta’ Veru, the Maltese edition of Nereida Carrillo’s book on misinformation and fake news, translated by David Aloisio and published by Merlin Publishers. His expressive illustrations complement the book’s educational message, helping readers of all ages understand the mechanisms of disinformation through engaging and accessible visual storytelling. Montt’s work continues to demonstrate the power of illustration as a medium for communication, education, and critical reflection.
