Description

The Story of Valletta introduces the visitor to the historic planned city. The Order of S John took up residence in 1571 and, until forced out by the French in 1798, improved and embellished the city with fine buildings. Despite losses to bombing in World War II, many fine buildings remain, including St John’s co-Cathedral, the Palace of the Grand Masters, on Palace Square, and several auberges where knights of St John lived. The book carries a guide to the major buildings and museums.
