Description

The vast complex of the Temple, at Paris, was originally a stronghold of the Knights Templar. With the conveyance of the Temple to the Order of St John, the archives contained within were also added to those, many and ancient, archives of the Order.

The Temple also enclosed an imposing collection of buildings and served as the Order’s French headquarters until the French Revolution, when it was totally rifled of its contents.

This book deals with the final years of the Order in France and in Malta, as well as with the events taking place in Malta before Napoleon’s arrival in 1798, when the Order of St John had lost its will to fight but was too ripe to be exiled out of its island home and its history.
