The Order of St. John arrived in Malta on 26th October 1530. While in Malta, the Order experienced the most glorious event in its history when, in 1565, the knights withstood a four-month siege, known as the the Great Siege of Malta, by an overwhelming Ottoman army.
Phillipe Villiers de l’Isle Adam was the first Grandmaster to rule over Malta.
