Tact’s music is composed by Franco Tartaglia, where musical arrangement is done by the whole band immersing different colours and soul under the musical direction of Tartaglia.
Franco Tartaglia started studying classical guitar at the age of six. From then onwards, he delved himself into rock, blues and jazz/bossanova always pursuing to become a complete musician. Some influences amongst many others are Philip Glass, Brian Eno, Steve Hackett, Al di Meola, Pat Metheny and Bireli Lagrene. In 2005, he has also immersed himself in music recording and production notwithstanding the fact that his experience with different bands and artists are of a wide variety for instance Niki Gravino and the Vile Bodies. Tartaglia, is currently working on different projects being film music both for local and international short movies/documentaries and Tact (Tartaglia’s act) whilst collaborating with different artists as a session guitarist and music consultancy. Recent music collaborations in 2013 was with Maltese Film Director Mark Doneo in his movie ‘Silhouette’ and Czech Film Director Ester Brym in the short documentary ‘Autumn of Route 66’ achieving the ‘Best Female Director’ Award and placing second for the ‘Best Picture’ Award in the AOF International Awards in Los Angeles. ‘Autumn of Route 66’ was then screened at the Valley Film Festival in Hollywood.
Simon Sammut (Bass Guitars) son of Joseph Sammut, well-known Maltese orchestra conductor and composer, comes from a musical family. Simon started his initial studies at a young age and reached advanced levels of music education. After studying piano for a number of years, he started playing electric bass at the age of thirteen. He became captivated by the sound of legendary bass players as James Jamerson, Jaco Pastorius, Francis Rocco Prestia, Verdine White and Larry Graham. As a performer, he has played with leading musicians and covering a wide span of musical activities. Besides being a Bass guitar performer, Simon is equally at home in the roles of composer, arranger, producer and music teacher.
In 2011, Simon produced and released his new solo album entitled “BaSSic Attitude” in collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Alexander Kuzmin.
Paul Torpiano (Piano) is a 24 year old classically-trained jazz pianist, as well as the songwriter behind local acts Funk Initiative and PT etc, both of which have enjoyed considerable airtime and positive reviews. His firm belief that a composition should come before any one musician shows through in his minimalistic and eruptive yet tempered playing, at times populist and catchy, at others obtuse and abstract. A doctor by profession, Paul’s background in jazz, mixed with a love of many contemporary styles allows him to bring a unique playing approach to Tact.
Carl Matthew Camilleri (Drums and Percussion)started drums studies under the guidance of Mr. Ben Galea and has widened his knowledge on drums and percussion instruments through his experience with renowned Maltese artists and projects. He pursued drums and rythmic studies with Mr. Massimo de Majo. He performs regularly with the big band Versatile Brass and played as a session player with Nafra – a major international exponent of Malta’s music heritage and Sarsaza percussion ensemble – a project put together by Daniel Cauchi. Rockestra (2009), Joseph Calleja (2009) and Movie Spectacular (2008-2013) are amongst the main concerts with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra in which Carl was involved. Throughout the years he has been involved in a number of local productions which vary from musicals, operettas, Christmas pantomimes and concerts in various genres amongst which Animae Gospel Choir concert (2012). Carl has been a member of Tact since August 2013.
