Dear Ms Vassallo,
The Queen has asked me to thank you for your letter of 10th December, and I must first of all apologise for the delay in replying. Due to the very high volume of mail received in recent weeks, it has not been possible to reply until now.
Her Majesty was sorry to learn that your daughter, Samira and your granddaughter, Rahaf tragically died in a car accident in Libya on 10th October last year. The Queen sends her sympathy to you and your family at this sad time.
Careful note has been taken of the difficulties you have experienced since 1994 and I am to convey Her Majesty’s warm good wishes to you for a happier and more peaceful future for yourself and your family.
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to write as you did, your thoughtfulness is appreciated.
