This Journal follows the Maths Mastery approach towards the teaching and learning of mathematics. The approach is based on practices used in Singapore. Singapore has been ranked first in the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) for the past 20 years. Sound educational theories underpin this approach. A main characteristic of Maths Mastery is problem solving. Each lesson starts with a problem and learners find creative solutions to the problem. The use of concrete resources is a fundamental part of this approach – it ensures that learners gain a deep understanding of every concept. These multisensory learning opportunities provide an imaginative and exciting path to mathematics.
