Description
With unique paintings in red ochre and remarkably carved room, the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum is one of the best-known Neolithic sites on the Maltese Islands. It is one of the most important sites from the Neolithic and the best-preserved environment of the time, with architectural details and painted walls surviving intact.
This was one of the first Maltese cultural sites to be inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1980.
