Description
According to local folklore, the megalithic temples of Ġgantija were built by a race of extinct giants.
Ġgantija was constructed during the late Neolithic (c. 3600-2500 BC). It is more than 5000 years old, and is considered to be one of the oldest free-standing structures worldwide.
Ġgantija was the first megalithic site in Malta to be inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage Site list in 1980.
