Mario Gauci

Mario Gauci studied at the University of Malta for a Bachelor’s Degree in Libraries, Information and Archives Studies in 2010 and a Masters in Arts and Baroque Studies in 2013. He has been serving as Senior Assistant Archivist for the Metropolitan Cathedral Archives in Mdina since March 2005. Prior to his current position, Mario worked for the Government Libraries Department. His scholarly work specializes in ecclesiastical archives and processed significant institutional documents and personal papers of Maltese scholars. He took keen interest in the restructuring programme of the Cathedral Archives and was appointed ex-ufficio member and secretary of the Cathedral Archives Management Board.

His work entails, the administrative and managerial, preservation, cataloguing and classification of the archival documentation. He monitored the digitization project of the Archdiocese of Malta and collaborated with the Malta Study Centre of the Hill Monastic Library for Saint John’s University, Collegeville, Minnesota, USA. He promotes and facilitates effective collaboration between foreign scholarly institutions and the Cathedral Archives. Mr Gauci was offered a brief scholarship in the Archivio di Stato of Bologna 2011 and participated in a conference organized by Archivo della Congregazione per la Dottrina delle Fede at the Vatican in May 2018.

His published and unpublished studies include: art history, architecture, social history and the archival scenario in Malta.
