Carmen J Schembri

Carmen J. Schembri is a Maltese educator and author, best known for her work in the field of religious education and spirituality. She is a retired teacher with 24 years of experience teaching Religion and other humanities-related subjects, and she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Theology and Religious Studies from the University of Malta, as well as a Master’s degree in Creativity and Innovation.

She is the author of the book Religiosity Finds Its Perfection in Spirituality (2020), a work aimed at rethinking how religion is taught in schools by emphasising spirituality as a deeper, lived dimension of faith. The book explores the idea that spirituality can transform religious education, particularly in the context of adolescents, encouraging a more reflective and experiential approach rather than a purely ritual or doctrinal one.

Through her writing and educational work, Schembri focuses on the relationship between religiosity and spirituality, advocating for teaching approaches that help students develop personal meaning, inner awareness, and a more holistic understanding of faith. Her contribution is primarily within Maltese religious education literature, with an emphasis on pedagogical innovation and spiritual development in the classroom
