Brad Meltzer
Brad Meltzer is a distinguished American novelist, non-fiction writer, television show creator, and comic book author. His diverse body of work spans political thrillers, legal dramas, conspiracy fiction genres, while he has also written superhero comics for DC Comics, and periodically Marvel Comics, and also authored a series of short biographies of prominent people for young readers, further showcasing his versatility as a writer. Brad Meltzer was born on April 1, 1970, in Brooklyn, New York, and later relocated to Miami, Florida. Meltzer attended high school in Florida, where he was heavily influenced by his English teacher, Sheila Spicer, whom he credits with recognising his writing talent. He attended North Miami Beach Senior High School, graduating in 1988. Meltzer pursued higher education at the University of Michigan, where he studied History and Political Science. He later earned a Juris Doctor degree from Columbia Law School in 1993, where he was selected for the Columbia Law Review. Meltzer was the first in his immediate family to attend a four-year college. Raised in a Jewish family, Meltzer was the son of immigrants. His father worked in the garment industry, and his mother was employed in a furniture store. This diverse background provided Meltzer with a rich cultural perspective that would later influence his writing.
Meltzer’s writing career began with his first novel, “Fraternity,” which he wrote while working at Games magazine. Despite facing 24 rejections, he persisted and authored “The Tenth Justice,” a legal thriller that became a New York Times bestseller. Meltzer’s books have appeared on the bestseller lists for fiction, non-fiction (History Decoded), advice (Heroes for My Son and Heroes for My Daughter), children’s books (I Am Amelia Earhart and I Am Abraham Lincoln), and comic books (Justice League of America, for which he won an Eisner Award). He also wrote the comic book series “Identity Crisis” for DC Comics, which received critical acclaim and won the Eisner Award for Best Single Issue in 2008. Many of his works have received prestigious awards. In 2018, Meltzer was even asked to read to Bush on his deathbed, having been among Bush’s favourite authors. Meltzer’s other notable novels include “The First Counsel,” “The Millionaires,” and “The Zero Game.” His non-fiction works, such as “The First Conspiracy,” delve into historical mysteries. Meltzer’s “Ordinary People Change the World” series has been adapted into a PBS KIDS television show, highlighting his impact on children’s education. Beyond books, he has created and hosted television programmes exploring historical mysteries on the History Channel. In 2004, Meltzer co-created the television series “Jack & Bobby,” which aired on the WB network. Meltzer has hosted “Brad Meltzer’s Decoded” which has allowed him to explore important historical topics while shedding light on the lives of lesser-known figures who shaped history, further amplifying his legacy as both an educator and storyteller. and “Brad Meltzer’s Lost History” on the History Channel, where he explored historical mysteries and artifacts. Meltzer is also responsible for helping find the missing 9/11 flag that the firefighters raised at Ground Zero at the World Trade Centre site, making national news on the 15th anniversary of 9/11. Using his TV show, Brad Meltzer’s Lost History, he told the story of the missing flag and asked Americans for their help in returning it. Four days later, a former Marine walked into a fire station in Everett, Washington, said that he saw Meltzer’s TV show, and that he now wanted to return the flag. Meltzer unveiled the flag at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York, where it is now on display.
Brad Meltzer has been married to Cori Flam since March 18, 1995. The couple has three children: two sons and a daughter. They reside in Florida, where Meltzer continues his writing and television projects. Brad Meltzer is deeply committed to charitable causes, often using his platform to make a difference in the community.
