Beth Tweddle

Beth Tweddle is a former British artistic gymnast and Olympic medalist who is widely regarded as one of the most successful gymnasts in the history of British sport. Born in 1985 in Johannesburg, South Africa, she moved with her family to Bunbury, Cheshire, England while still an infant. Gymnastics has been and always will be a massive part of Beth’s life. Following her successful years pursuing her passion, she retired in 2013 from competitive gymnastics and has worked as an author and motivational speaker, sharing her experiences and inspiring young people to pursue sport and overcome challenges.

She is the author of the children’s non-fiction book Becoming an Olympic Gymnast, written as part of the Collins Big Cat series, where she tells her personal story of training from a young age, competing at the highest international level, and becoming a world champion and Olympic bronze medallist. In the book, Tweddle reflects on the discipline, resilience, and dedication required to succeed in elite gymnastics, while also discussing the challenges she faced, including injuries and the pressures of competition.

Through her writing, she aims to encourage young readers to believe in themselves, work hard toward their goals, and understand the importance of perseverance, making her book both an educational and inspirational account of life as an elite athlete.
