Andrea Tornielli

Andrea Tornielli is a well-known Italian journalist, writer, and Vatican expert, best known for his work on the Catholic Church and the papacy. He was born in 1964 and studied history at the University of Padua. He has spent much of his career reporting on religious topics and has worked for major Italian newspapers such as, Il Giornale and La Stampa. He also helped run Vatican Insider, a website dedicated to news about the Vatican.

In 2018, he was appointed editorial manager of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Communication, a key role in overseeing official Church communications.

Andrea Tornielli has written many books about religion, including: Biographies of popes, Books about Catholic history and faith, and
Works exploring topics like miracles and the life of Jesus. His books have been translated into many languages, making his work widely read around the world.

He is especially known for working with Pope Francis on the book The Name of God Is Mercy (2016). The book is a conversation/interview between Pope Francis and Andrea Tornielli. Tornielli acts as the interviewer, asking questions and guiding the discussion. It focuses on the idea of mercy in Christianity and in Pope Francis’s teachings.
