Andrea Schomburg
Andrea Schomburg is a German author and poet who writes mainly for children. She was born in Cairo in 1955 and later grew up in Germany and now lives near Hamburg. She began her career writing poetry for adults before moving into children’s literature. In addition to writing books, she teaches poetry at university and performs her work publicly. Over the years, she has created more than 40 works for young readers, becoming known for her warm, thoughtful storytelling style.
One of her best-known books is A Friend Like You, written with Barbara Röttgen and illustrated by Sean Julian. Aimed at young children, the story follows a squirrel and a bird who become friends despite having very different habits and preferences. Through their experiences, the book shows how friendship can grow even when individuals are different, teaching lessons about acceptance, kindness, and understanding.
Andrea Schomburg’s writing often focuses on themes such as friendship, emotions, and empathy. Her simple language, combined with a gentle and slightly poetic tone, makes her books especially appealing to young readers.
