Alice Schertle

Alice Schertle (born 1941) is an American children’s author, poet, and former elementary school teacher best known for her Little Blue Truck series and many other beloved picture books. She has written more than 40 books for children, often combining playful language, rhyme, and themes of nature, friendship, and imagination. Schertle’s work includes titles like Little Blue Truck, All You Need for a Snowman, How Now, Brown Cow?, and We, with many of her stories becoming favourites in classrooms and homes alike.

Born in Los Angeles, California, she studied at the University of Southern California and originally worked as a teacher before turning to writing full‑time. Her books have earned recognition for their lyrical text and heartfelt tone, and she continues to be celebrated for creating stories that delight young readers with warmth, humour, and a sense of wonder. Schertle lives in Plainfield, Massachusetts.
