Alex Manche
Prof. Alexander Manché is a Maltese cardio-thoracic surgeon best known outside the medical field for his collaboration in food and health writing, particularly the book The Food Book, which he co-authored with chef Joe Vella and writer Mona Farrugia.
He is recognised for combining his medical expertise with a strong interest in nutrition, health, and lifestyle-related disease prevention, particularly focusing on how dietary choices can influence conditions such as high blood sugar, cardiovascular health, and metabolic disorders. This perspective formed a key foundation of The Food Book, which promotes a low-carbohydrate, health-conscious approach to eating aimed at long-term wellbeing.
Manche’s involvement in the book reflects his broader interest in translating clinical knowledge into practical guidance for everyday life, making nutritional science more accessible to the general public. The project brought together his medical background and Vella’s culinary expertise to create recipes and advice aligned with healthier eating habits.
