Alex Latimer

Alex Latimer is a South African writer and illustrator of children’s books, based in Cape Town. He holds a degree in English and Philosophy and has built a global career creating picture books that are widely translated and published internationally. His work is known for its playful humour, distinctive visual style, and ability to appeal to both children and adults.

Latimer has written and illustrated numerous award-winning and bestselling titles, including Pig and Small, The Boy Who Cried Ninja, and Lion vs. Rabbit. He has also collaborated on a range of picture books and educational stories, often blending imaginative storytelling with accessible themes for young readers. His books are frequently praised for their wit, warmth, and inventive storytelling.

Among his recent works is Ray (2023), published by Oxford University Press, a picture book about a firefly guiding frightened forest animals through the dark.
