Alex Hay

Alex Hay is a British author best known for his historical crime debut novel The Housekeepers (2023), a stylish heist story set in Edwardian London. He studied History at the University of York, where he developed an interest in themes of power, class, and women’s roles in historical contexts—ideas that strongly influence his fiction. Before becoming a full-time writer, he worked in magazine publishing and the charity sector.

Hay’s writing blends historical fiction with elements of crime and caper storytelling, often centring on strong female-led narratives. His debut, The Housekeepers, follows a group of women who orchestrate an ambitious revenge-fuelled heist during a high-society event. The novel received attention for its vivid period detail, fast-paced plot, and its exploration of class and gender dynamics in early 20th-century Britain.

Following the success of his debut, Hay has continued to develop historical heist fiction, including The Queen of Fives. He lives in London with his husband and is regarded as an emerging voice in contemporary historical crime fiction, known for combining entertainment-driven plotting with social commentary.
