Alberto Bianco

Alberto Bianco is an Italian art historian and researcher specialising in the artistic and cultural heritage of the Order of St John and the study of Baroque sacred art. His research focuses on art history, sculpture, and devotional works, with particular interest in the Italian and Maltese contexts. Through his scholarly studies, he has contributed to a deeper understanding of works of significant historical, artistic, and religious value.

Bianco is one of the contributors to the volume L’Apostolato dell’Ordine di San Giovanni nella Cattedrale di Malta, published by the Metropolitan Cathedral Chapter of Mdina in 2018. Co-authored with Aloysius Deguara, Edgar Vella, Giuseppe Mantella, Jennifer Montagu, John Azzopardi, Maria Chiara Cozzi, and Sante Guido, the book examines the unique ensemble of fifteen silver statues created by Antonio Arrighi between 1739 and 1743 for the Order of St John. Combining historical, artistic, and technical research, the publication is regarded as an important reference work on one of the most treasured collections housed in St Paul’s Metropolitan Cathedral, Mdina.

Through his publications and academic collaborations, Alberto Bianco has contributed to the study and preservation of the artistic heritage of the Mediterranean. His work reflects a commitment to rigorous historical documentation and art-historical research, helping to promote a greater appreciation of the cultural and religious legacy associated with the Order of St John and Malta’s rich artistic heritage.
