Albert Cauchi
Albert Cauchi is a Maltese historian, architect, and structural engineer who also works as a writer on Maltese and Mediterranean history. He is best known for his book Origins of the Maltese People: With an Emphasis on Medieval Times (2022), which explores how the Maltese population developed over centuries, especially during the medieval period.
Before focusing on historical writing, Cauchi built a long professional career in engineering and architecture. He studied at the University of Malta and later became a Chartered Structural Engineer, working on major international projects in areas such as construction, infrastructure, and design across countries including Malta and several locations in the Middle East and Europe.
In his book Origins of the Maltese People, he examines Malta’s history through the lens of migration, conquest, and cultural blending. He focuses particularly on the Arab period, the Norman conquest, and later influences from Sicily and southern Italy, arguing that modern Maltese identity developed through centuries of cultural interaction rather than a single ancestral origin.
