Alan Macdonald

Alan MacDonald (born 1958 in Watford, Hertfordshire, England) is a British children’s author best known for creating the hugely popular Dirty Bertie series with illustrator David Roberts. He lives in Nottingham and has written Dirty Bertie books — starring a mischievous, nose‑picking, trouble‑making boy whose gross antics have delighted young readers — as well as many other titles ranging from early readers and picture books to longer middle‑grade fiction. The Dirty Bertie series has sold millions of copies worldwide and includes dozens of individual books known for their humour and appeal to reluctant or confident readers alike. In addition to his work as an author, MacDonald has written for children’s television shows such as Tweenies, Horrid Henry and Fimbles, and he often visits schools and festivals to perform readings and workshops.
