Adrian Strickland
Adrian Strickland is a Maltese heraldist, vexillologist, artist, and writer, best known for his work on Maltese symbols, coats of arms, flags, and insignia. He is the author of A Look at Malta Insignia (1992), a publication dealing with Maltese national symbols and the meaning, design, and historical development of insignia such as flags, badges, and official emblems. His work reflects a long-standing interest in heraldry and national identity.
Strickland is also widely recognised for his professional and scholarly contributions to Maltese heraldry and vexillology. He is the founder and president of the Heraldry & Vexillology Society of Malta (HAVSOM), established in 1995, which promotes the study of coats of arms and flags in Malta. He has also served as a lecturer and advisor in this field, including advising Maltese authorities on heraldic matters and contributing to the design and interpretation of official symbols. Beyond his written work, he has been involved in designing and researching numerous official and institutional emblems in Malta, and has delivered public lectures on insignia, military badges, and national symbols, particularly those related to the Knights of St John and modern Maltese state identity.
Adrian Strickland is regarded as one of Malta’s key specialists in heraldic and symbolic studies, with A Look at Malta Insignia being one of his notable published works in that field.
