Adrian Buckle

Adrian Buckle is a Maltese playwright, theatre producer, director, educator, and novelist whose work is recognised for its bold storytelling and exploration of complex social, philosophical, and mythological themes. For nearly two decades, he has been a prominent figure in Malta’s performing arts community, producing innovative theatre that challenges conventions and expands artistic dialogue. In 2009, Buckle successfully challenged Malta’s stage censorship laws after one of his productions was banned, a landmark case that contributed to the abolition of theatrical censorship in the country. Alongside his creative work, he serves as a drama teacher, developing theatre-in-education programmes that inspire young audiences through performance and storytelling.

Buckle is the author of AODHÁN, the first novel in the DEOS IRÆ trilogy. Blending dark fantasy, cosmic horror, Greek mythology, and Judeo-Christian theology, the novel follows the mysterious arrival of a supernatural child whose existence threatens to reshape the balance between gods, angels, and humanity. Through richly imagined world-building and emotionally driven characters, AODHÁN explores themes of identity, grief, power, redemption, and the enduring struggle between light and darkness. The novel marks Buckle’s transition from acclaimed theatre practitioner to fantasy author while retaining the dramatic intensity and character depth that define his stage work.
