Abdi Nazemian
Abdi Nazemian is an Iranian-American author, screenwriter, and producer whose work explores identity, family, history, and the LGBTQ+ experience through both contemporary and historical storytelling. Born in Iran and raised in several countries before settling in North America, he brings a multicultural perspective to his acclaimed fiction and screenwriting. He is a graduate of Columbia University and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Nazemian is the author of several award-winning novels, including The Walk-In Closet, The Authentics, Like a Love Story, The Chandler Legacies, Only This Beautiful Moment, and Desert Echoes. His novel Only This Beautiful Moment is a sweeping intergenerational story following three generations of an Iranian family across Tehran and Los Angeles, examining themes of love, exile, identity, and resilience. The novel received both the 2024 Stonewall Book Award for Young Adult Literature and the 2024 Lambda Literary Award for Young Adult Literature, earning widespread praise for its emotional depth and historical insight.
In addition to his literary career, Nazemian has written for film and television, with credits including The Village, Ordinary Joe, and Almost Family. He has also served as an executive or associate producer on acclaimed films such as Call Me by Your Name. Through his writing across multiple media, he is committed to telling diverse, character-driven stories that celebrate empathy, authenticity, and the richness of underrepresented voices.
