A Sammut Tagliaferro

A. Sammut Tagliaferro was a Maltese historian and researcher whose work focused primarily on the military, architectural, and archaeological heritage of the Maltese Islands.

Tagliaferro is best known for authoring The Coastal Fortifications of Gozo and Comino (1993), a comprehensive study of the defensive structures built along the coasts of Gozo and Comino. Throughout extensive archival research and field investigation, Sammut Tagliaferro documented watchtowers, batteries, redoubts, and other fortifications, contributing significantly to the preservation and understanding of Malta’s military history.

Tagliaferro’s scholarship helped bring attention to aspects of Gozo’s defensive heritage that had previously received limited academic treatment, making his work an important reference for historians, archaeologists, and heritage researchers interested in the fortifications of the Maltese Islands.
