The traditional fishing boats, their construction, the names of the numerous parts from which they were constructed and the tools used by the boat builder are described in great detail.

The book also includes the history of the marketing of fish, the history of the Fisheries Department, and aquaculture.

An appendix includes a compendium of legislation pertaining to the fishing industry dating back 600 years, as well as graphs showing the amount of different species of fish caught during the past 60 years.

Although the book is written in English, Maltese terminology is used whenever necessary.
